New York, (Jan 25, 2001)
Neturei Karta International, a world wide organization
of anti – Zionist Orthodox Jews, has called upon
New York area Jewry to join them in a demonstration
led by the Metropolitan Muslim Federation on Friday,
January 26th at 11:00 AM. The protest will begin with
a march from 800 2nd Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Street
and will proceed to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza located at
47th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues. Rabbi Dovid
Weiss, spokesman for the group, will speak shortly after
1:00 PM.
Rabbi Dovid Weiss, “At a time when, tragically,
so many attempt to stir up enmity between Jews and Muslims,
between Jews and Palestinians, it behooves all fair
minded Jews to proclaim their sympathy for the plight
of the Palestinian people. It is over a century since
the Zionist movement began its invasion of the Holy
Land. In essence, the dispossession of the Palestinian
people, which began then, has continued with ever increasing
violence till this day.”
“As Torah Jews we must be always aware of the
norms of basic fairness and compassion. Fear of the
‘Powers That Be” must never deter us from
speaking the truth.”
“Unfortunately many Jews have been brainwashed
by the hate filled propaganda of Zionism. It has caused
them to either advocate or acquiesce in repeated violence
against the Palestinians.”
“The root of the current conflict is Zionism,
a vile creed always rejected by Orthodox leaders. The
establishment of a pre – Messianic Jewish state
is forbidden to the Jewish people. True peace will never
come to the region until the mad and immoral enterprise
of Zionism is abandoned.”
It behooves to show the world the true moral grandeur
of the Torah by showing our sympathy for all those who
suffer needlessly and, particularly if their suffering
is caused by our misguided brethren.
